STEP 4: Larger Hotel Properties in Loreto
|
| Introduction: Below is a listing of the accommodations in and around Loreto, B.C.S. Mexico. These Properties can handle a large group of over 12 persons. All hotels listed here have 24 hour front desk, restaurant and bar facilities, meeting rooms, pools and jacuzzi. Hyper links are listed where these hotels have their own websites. We can book a few of these hotels for you but most of them handle their own bookings. Once you have set your travel dates, booked the airline, and reserved your fishing boats, the next step will be deciding where to stay. Loreto has many choices. Accommodations must have A/C, be clean, be safe, and secure before being listed here. Pool will be mentioned if property has one. If you need help just contact us. |
Our Ratings Scale and Comments- the more "fish" a hotel earns the better they are for fishermen to stay at. Let's call them fish friendly hotels. These are our ratings based on feedback from our customers over the years and our personal experience. If a perfectly good hotel is rated low it is not necessarily because it is a bad place to stay but it is not percieved to be fisherman friendly because either there are no accommodations made to handle coolers, fish, and fishing equipment, or they have an "attitude" towards fishermen. There is no particular order to this list. If you wish for your Loreto hotel to be listed or receive a better rating, we'll take bribes!

Listing of Resorts in and around Loreto
|
Desert Inn
 |
Right on the beach and very convenient for fishermen. Funky property as it is usually in need of paint in places and the staff can be surley. Nice pool but bar prices are high. All rooms face the water and have an excellent view. Easy walking distance to downtown center. Stairs and hallways nice and clear when walking with the fishing gear. Casual laid back atmosphere. Tip- upgrade to a Villa or deluxe room, huge difference. Excellent off street parking available. Rooms 301 - 624 are best to avoid malecon noise at night. No WiFi, when will they get on the ball?
Rating: Price per night: $99 and $125

La Mision
 |
La Mision is on the site of the old Hotel El Mision. This is where Paco tended bar at the Pelicano, the large rubber tree offered shade beside the pool and Elvis and John Wayne stayed. La Mision reconstructed, remodeled and reopened only a year ago. Their decor and atmosphere is more like a Ritz Carlton than a hotel in Loreto but what the hell? This is a place that has shams on the beds, fancy leather furniture that you'd better not spill your cerveza on and a "spa". It is located on Loreto's waterfront near the marina. Hallways and low clearance stairwells make walking around with 9 foot flyrods a challenge. The fancy and formal atmosphere makes some of our more casual fishermen a little uncomfortable. No off street parking available. Cruising along the malecon can make this a noisy place at night, especially in hot weather. In room safes. WiFi available but signal is spotty.
Rating: Price per night: $120.00 US and up

Hacienda Suites
 |
Hacienda suites is located quite a way's inland and its also a good walk to the downtown area, espically when its hot. It is good stay for those traveling here by car and it has secured off street parking. This hotel is located next to one of the best restaurants in town, Domingo's Place. There is a pool, bar and restaurant on site. In room safes. Rating due to inconvenient inland location in summertime (pertains to fishermen that arrive by air). WiFi available.
Rating: Price per night: $89.00 US and up

Posada de las Flores
 |
This historic looking building was actually only constructed and completed in the year 2000. It has ten rooms that range in size and level of services. This is a fancy hotel complete with pillow "shams" and a spa and it features a third story swimming pool with a glass floor. This adds light to the main lobby and can be seen by looking up. Some of their first guests, after opening the hotel, were fishermen who had a jolly time "mooning" other guests on the ground floor from the bottom of the rooftop pool above. They've copped a 'tude with fishermen ever since. Rooms are European style and very small, antique museum-like setting, difficult to move around with fishing gear but the wife will be happy. This property is located in the center of town and two blocks from the waterfront. Currently, the construction of the town center re-design is affecting this property, we expect it to continue through 2010. WiFi available. Rating: Price per night: $171.00 US and up

Rentals Loreto
 |
Rentals of private vacation homes are an option in Loreto too. We recommend Rentals Loreto to handle your needs if you think a private home would be more suitable for your family or group. Kathy has managed her listings for many years and we work well with her operation. Rentals Loreto's website has photographs, descriptions and pricing of all available listings. This is a great resource for something more private and unique. Fishability ratings of the individual houses available will vary so we'll rate the fishability of Kathy's service instead.
Rating: Price per week: private rental homes start at $320.00 US per week!

Hotel Tripui
 |
This hotel is well south of Loreto, at 20 miles away. So it is definately outside of town. Its proximity from Loreto makes us taking fishermen from there difficult and costly so we suggest staying in town. However this hotel does deserve mention as a good one to two night side trip from a Loreto trip. It makes a great starting point for a day whale watching trip to Mag Bay. Also the plentiful secure off street parking and wash down facilities make it a great place for private boaters who drive here. Puerto Escondido and its operations are only 3 Km down the street. The hotel is two stories with eight large rooms, two beds in each and overlooking the pool. The pool makes a great gathering place backdropped by the Sierra de la Giganta and scores of colorful flowering trees, bushes and plants. The large restaurant and bar can hande events. WiFi available. Mini mart and easy access to highway 1.
Rating: Price per night: $125.00 US and up

Narrow Loreto Hotel Results-
Guys Trip- Fishing is your priority, you just want a place to sleep that's clean, casual, and no frills. These listings all consider one bed for each fishermen (unlike those "couples" places).
Couple's Trip- You're traveling with your "better half" but she wants clean, formal and frilly. You could care less but you have to make sacrifices so you can get permission to fish! A bed with "shams" is required...we understand.
Small Properties- You prefer to stay in a smaller property off the beaten path and not in a resort. These properties are usually managed and operated by the owner.
Group Trip-
You have a large group of over 12 persons. These hotels can accommodate your large group easily. Please contact us for large groups as they require more attention from us due scheduling captains.
Pinche Pesos-
In other words traveling on a shoe string budget. If you are willing to stay on the cheap, yet a discerning fisherman who requires great service look no further! Please contact us for cheap hotel reservations. They require extra attention because we have to make your reservations in person.
Vacation Rental Houses and Condos- Kathy at Rentals Loreto handles a wide variety of listings. She probably has the right house for your group or family.
Limited Flight Service Alert!
Alaska Air Lines- Alaska/Horizon is the only scheduled airline to Loreto and they only serve Loreto (LTO) four days a week! These days are Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We suggest your first step after deciding your travel dates is to book your seat on the flight.
