STEP 4: No Frills Accommodations in Loreto
|
| Introduction: Below is a listing of the accommodations in and around Loreto, B.C.S. Mexico, that are guy friendly. So relax and kick back, snore, burp and go shirtless this is likely a male bonding trip or a group of serious hard core fishermen. Hyper links are listed where these hotels have their own websites. We can book a few of these hotels for you but most of them handle their own bookings. Once you have set your travel dates, booked the airline, and reserved your fishing boats, the next step will be deciding where to stay. Loreto has many choices. Accommodations must have A/C, be clean, be safe, and secure before being listed here. Pool will be mentioned if property has one. If you need help just contact us. |
Our Ratings Scale and Comments- the more "fish" a hotel earns the better they are for fishermen to stay at. Let's call them fish friendly hotels. These are our ratings based on feedback from our customers over the years and our personal experience. If a perfectly good hotel is rated low it is not necessarily because it is a bad place to stay but it is not percieved to be fisherman friendly because either there are no accommodations made to handle coolers, fish, and fishing equipment, or they have an "attitude" towards fishermen. There is no particular order to this list. If you wish for your Loreto hotel to be listed or receive a better rating, we'll take bribes!

Desert Inn
 |
Right on the beach and very convenient for fishermen. Funky property as it is usually in need of paint in places and the staff can be surley. Nice pool but bar prices are high. All rooms face the water and have an excellent view. Easy walking distance to downtown center. Stairs and hallways nice and clear when walking with the fishing gear. Casual laid back atmosphere. Tip- upgrade to a Villa or deluxe room, huge difference. Excellent off street parking available. Rooms 301 - 624 are best to avoid malecon noise at night. No WiFi, when will they get on the ball?
Rating: Price per night: $99 and $125

|
Hacienda Suites
 |
Hacienda suites is located quite a way's inland and its also a good walk to the downtown area, espically when its hot. It is good stay for those traveling here by car and it has secured off street parking. This hotel is located next to one of the best restaurants in town, Domingo's Place. There is a pool, bar and restaurant on site. In room safes. Rating due to inconvenient inland location in summertime (pertains to fishermen that arrive by air). WiFi available.
Rating: Price per night: $89.00 US and up

|
|
Iguana Inn
 |
This is a small property so it fills up quickly. Their downtown location, price per night and clean, comfortable and fun atmosphere, make it one of the best deals in Baja California Sur lodging. This property is inland but its an easy two block walk from the waterfront and the center of town. Off street parking is available on request. Outdoor BBQ and gathering area. Four rooms with two beds each decorated in traditional colorul Mexican style. WiFi available.
Rating: Price per night: $40.00 US and up

Motel El Dorado
 |
This place is tucked away right in the center of town. It is one block from the waterfront and two blocks from the Mission. Small rooms with two beds each, clean and secure. No pool but nice palapa bar. Locate on a narrow dirt street there is limited parking for a large rig. Very easy walk to anywhere in town, great prices and friendly staff too.
Rating: Price per night: $50.00 US and up

|
Hotel El Moro
 |
This little gem is very close to the waterfront and marina. There is an RV in back and rooms are in a modest two story concrete building that's wonderfuly overgrown with colorful bouganvillas. This place is an easy walk to the town center, bank, plaza and the Mission. Rating due to uncertainty as we are only basing the above on our impression of this place. Comments from guests that have stayed here through the years have been positive. This means that it could actually rate higher on the fish scale. Next time I walk by I'll get a better photo with those flowers!
Rating: Price per night: $30.00 US and up

The Junipero
 |
We'll handle your hotel reservation for this one. No English and no internet! They'll put your name, group, and room numbers down in a spiral notebook they use to keep the reservations. And when you arrive, they'll have a room for you and you'll need to pay them directly on checking in. This is a locals lodge and the guest list will reflect it. You may share the property with other fishermen but you may also be mingling with Mexicans, Europeans and other adventurous traveling people. This is simply a place to put your head down and there are no pillow "shams" within a mile of here. This is truly no frills but the A/C works, its clean, its right in front of the bell tower of the Mission andtwo blocks from the water front. This place can get noisy, try to get a room in the back on the side that overlooks the Mission.
Rating: Price per night: $25.00 US and up

Rentals Loreto
 |
Rentals of private vacation homes are an option in Loreto too. We recommend Rentals Loreto to handle your needs if you think a private home would be more suitable for your family or group. Kathy has managed her listings for many years and we work well with her operation. Rentals Loreto's website has photographs, descriptions and pricing of all available listings. This is a great resource for something more private and unique. Fishability ratings of the individual houses available will vary so we'll rate the fishability of Kathy's service instead.
Rating: Price per week: private rental homes start at $320.00 US per week!

Hotel Angra
 |
This hotel is well off the beaten path on the industrial East - West thourofare through Loreto. It is newly built and clean with off street parking. There is a coffee shop on site and you will be located right next to the town's tackle shop that everyone knows as "Ferre-Mar". This property is about 10 blocks West of the water front.
Rating: Price per night: $35.00 US and up

Motel Palmas Altas
 |
Low budget but meets the basic requirements. A guys place, or a students crashpad. We'll handle your hotel reservation for this one. This is another one of those spiral notebook reservation departments. When you arrive, they'll have a room for you and you'll need to pay them directly on checking in. Most of the Palmas Altas rooms are housed inside of one of several pre-fabricated ex-military housing units. Single rooms have one twin bed and a bathroom but hardly any room to move. Double beds will have two beds, and "suites"- and not my word for them, have two king beds in a modular 1950's Winnabago style. The do have a couple of "departamentos" which are two apartments inside of a concrete building too. They actually have a pool and a pretty cool bar when its open. They're on a paved street one block from the waterfront but also 100 feet in front of the municipal auditorium. If there's a fiesta in that auditorium we suggest you look for another place to sleep! Good off street and secure parking. Cool place, funky but the price is right.
Rating: Price per night: $20.00 - $55.00 US

Couple's Trip- You're traveling with your "better half" but she wants clean, formal and frilly. You could care less but you have to make sacrifices so you can get permission to fish! A bed with "shams" is required...we understand.
Small Properties- You prefer to stay in a smaller property off the beaten path and not in a resort. These properties are usually managed and operated by the owner.
Group Trip-
You have a large group of over 12 persons. These hotels can accommodate your large group easily. Please contact us for large groups as they require more attention from us due scheduling captains.
Pinche Pesos-
In other words traveling on a shoe string budget. If you are willing to stay on the cheap, yet a discerning fisherman who requires great service look no further! Please contact us for cheap hotel reservations. They require extra attention because we have to make your reservations in person.
Vacation Rental Houses and Condos- Kathy at Rentals Loreto handles a wide variety of listings. She probably has the right house for your group or family.
Limited Flight Service Alert!
Alaska Air Lines- Alaska/Horizon is the only scheduled airline to Loreto and they only serve Loreto (LTO) four days a week! These days are Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We suggest your first step after deciding your travel dates is to book your seat on the flight.
